En 1978 BJ y su chimpancé "Bear" se suben por primera vez al camión, la serie tuvo gran suceso e incluso de ella derivó en serie con actores secundarios de la misma llamada "Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo". Lobo era un comisario corrupto de un condado llamado Orly, BJ cuando pasaba por allí no paraba de poner en evidencia la corrupción y la impunidad de Lobo y sus ayudantes incluído su fiel Perkins.
